DESIGN COMMISSION – EBBW VALE COMMUNITY PLAY (MAEN!)
date added:04 February 2010
MAEN! is a bilingual multi-arts community play taking place on the main stage of the Ebbw Vale Eisteddfod site on 29 July 2010, the day before the opening of the Eisteddfod

It will draw in participants from across four counties (Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen) and is being funded by the Arts Council of Wales and the Heads of the Valleys Programme.
MAEN! combines stories from the mythological and the real world, exploring issues relating to property and ownership and the changing landscape of the Heads of the Valleys.
MAEN! will involve films on a big screen working alongside live action.
MAEN! presents a huge challenge – we want to create something spectacular and visually exciting, but the performance space is only available for a single day!
Head for Arts is seeking applicants for a design commission that will enable us to translate this creative vision into a workable reality.
• We are looking for proposals from organisations (or individual practitioners) who can demonstrate an imaginative and practical approach to the portrayal of ever-changing landscapes – including their construction and destruction.
• We need someone whose approach ensures that there is maximum impact made on the very large performance space.
• Applications are particularly welcome from organizations/practitioners where the construction of the set/costumes/ properties includes opportunities for community workshops that can develop the skills of local volunteers.
The value of the commission is £12,000 – inclusive of materials.
