|The Torch encourages participation in the Arts, by producing, providing and promoting distinctive, challenging and accessible theatre events to the wider community in order to stimulate, engage and enlighten - thus supporting the economic, social and cultural regeneration of the community|
|The Torch Theatre was founded in 1977 and is one of only three building-based producing theatres in Wales (the others being Clwyd Theatr Cymru and Sherman Theatre, Cardiff). The current Artistic Director, Peter Doran joined the company in 1998 having been a founder member back in 1977;.
Recent productions include 'Noises Off' 'Dead Funny', 'Only a Matter of Time', 'Of Mice and Men' (Welsh Theatre Award for Best Production 2003), 'Woman in Black' 'Blue Remembered Hills', 'The Caretaker' and the 25th anniversary production of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' (Welsh Theatre Awards for Best Production and Best Design 2002). After a 15 month closure and a £5 million rebuild the Torch Theatre re-opened in March 2008 with a sell out production of ‘The Hired Man’ and in 2011 joined The National Theatre of Wales and NofitState Circus in a co-production of ‘Mundo Paralelo’. In 2006 Peter Doran won the Theatrical Managers Association award for 'Theatre Manager of the Year'. As well as live theatre events, the Torch shows films and hosts exhibitions, offers licensed bar and conference facilities, education activities and outreach work. The Theatre is also home to a Recording Studio. The Torch offers local community groups and amateur companies a place for their activities and pro-actively offers an accessible programme of events for everyone.
