New autumn season of international dance opens on September 18

New autumn season of international dance opens on September 18 Fresh from sell-out performances at one of Europe’s biggest dance festivals in Dusseldorf, Diversions is launching its sparkling autumn season of international dance on September 18, 19.

Comprising two pieces of elegant and entertaining choreography, created for the 25th anniversary of the National Dance Company of Wales, the season opens at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff and then tours Wales.

Full of energy and excitement, this glorious evening of dance features new works by two dynamic international choreographers.

The performance features Prelude & Strange Attractors Part II, bringing together instantly captivating dance from American Stephen Petronio and music from Placebo with vocals from David Bowie and costumes designed by Tanya Sarne of Ghost.

Bold Belgian choreographer Stijn Celis has created a new spellbinding entertainment for Diversions. His last work with Diversions, the hugely successful Practice Paradise also proved a big hit with dance lovers at addanza ‘08 when Diversions performed at the international dance festival in the Italian city of Milan in the early summer.

The new work combined the voice of the legendary James Brown and music from celebrated New York composer Steve Reich. Think Jazz, think electro, think cutting edge. Yes, Stijn is back!

Artistic Director Ann Sholem said; “I am delighted to be presenting fabulous work by two of the hottest choreographers in the business. Stephen Petronio and Stijn Celis are two very different choreographers but their works have one thing in common – they ooze style, class and are hugely entertaining.

“If you have seen the work of these two men before you know this will be a very performance. If you are new to their work you are in for a huge treat. This is the sort of dance that will have you coming back for more.”

Diversions will be launching the tour at its Cardiff home, the Dance House itself, Wales Millennium Centre on September 18, 19 and then tours to Theatr Gwynedd, Bangor( 26, 26 September), Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold (29, 30 September), The Courtyard, Hereford (October 2) and Theatr Hafren, Newtown (23, 24 October).
