From ‘Nancy’ to ‘Sally’

From ‘Nancy’ to ‘Sally’ Samantha Barks, the hugely popular runner-up from the BBC series I’d Do Anything has been cast in the prestigious role of Sally Bowles in the award-winning musical Cabaret, at the New Theatre from Monday 27 April.

Barks, from the Isle of Man, which was aptly renamed ‘Isle of Sam’ for a day in celebration of her success, was the first of the ‘Nancy’ finalists to perform in a major role following the TV show. She joins the world renowned dancer and TV favourite Wayne Sleep, who reprises the role of Emcee, to play the legendary Sally Bowles, a performer at the infamous Kit Kat Klub.

Receiving rave reviews from judges including Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Barrowman, Samantha spoke of her delight at being cast in the role “I’m absolutely thrilled to get this part. Cabaret is one of my favourite shows ever and Sally Bowles is such a great part to play. Having met Liza Minnelli during the filming of I’d Do Anything I’m beside myself with excitement.”

From the creators of the hit musical Chicago, Cabaret turns Weimar Berlin of 1931 into a sassy, sizzling haven of decadence featuring show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the most iconic songs in musical theatre including Mein Herr, Maybe This Time and of course Cabaret.

Since its Broadway premiere in 1966 and the famous movie version with Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey, Cabaret has won a staggering number of stage and screen awards including 8 Oscars, 7 Baftas and 13 Tonys.

This production contains adult themes and brief moments of nudity. And is therefore most suitable for ages 13+

Cabaret is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Monday 27 April – Saturday 2 May. Tickets range from £8.50 - £33.00 and can booked via the Box Office on 029 2087 8889 or online* at www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk.
