FLUELLEN THEATRE COMPANY presents DRACULA by BRAM STOKER

FLUELLEN THEATRE COMPANY presents DRACULA by BRAM STOKER When Bram Stoker wrote his great horror novel, Dracula in 1897, little did he know that he was starting a fascination with Vampires and the Transylvanian Count that continues unabated to this very day.

And now, the acclaimed Swansea-based theatre company, Fluellen is staging a brand new adaptation of the novel at the Grand Theatre Arts Wing, Swansea just in time for Halloween. And, like the eponymous hero of the story, they are going for the jugular, by staging a midnight matinee on Halloween Night, October 31st!

“There have been lots of tongue-in-cheek Draculas through the years, and they are great. But I wanted to present a scary a version that, in the manner of Woman In Black, makes theatre audiences scream with terror!” says Fluellen`s Artistic Director, Peter Richards.

“Bram Stoker wrote a truly terrifying story, and we believe that with the immediacy of live theatre in the intimacy of the Grand Theatre Arts Wing, we will be able to translate that to a live audience.”

Huw Novelli (fresh from playing Oberon in a Wales tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream) follows a long line of actors in playing Dracula. “Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee have defined Dracula in the public imagination for generations, but I recently saw Max Schreck in the silent Nosferatu, and thinking him the scariest thing I had ever seen on screen,” he says, “so we have created a character that is visually original and scary in its own right.

Francis Hardy, the writer of this new adaptation, has kept the script very close to the original as we follow Jonathan Harker to Dracula`s castle where he tries finalise a property deal in London with the mysterious Count, and in doing so kick-starts a series of events that hurtle towards a thrilling and terrifying conclusion.
