ADDASIAD LLWYFAN I'R FFENOMENON LENYDDOL YN CYRRAEDD CAERDYDD

ADDASIAD LLWYFAN I'R FFENOMENON LENYDDOL YN CYRRAEDD CAERDYDD Mae addasiad llwyfan o Llyfr Glas Nebo, y nofel ôl-apocalyptaidd gan Manon Steffan Ros, yn dod i Gaerdydd'r gwanwyn yma.

Bydd tair berfformiad i'w gweld yn Theatr y Sherman ar y 10fed a 11eg o Chwefror 2020 fel rhan o daith genedlaethol.

Mae'r ddrama gan Frân Wen, mewn partneriaeth â Galeri, yn adrodd stori anhygoel Siôn, ei fam Rowenna a’i chwaer ifanc, Dwynwen, wrth iddynt geisio goroesi mewn byd ôl-apocalyptaidd.

Mae nofel Llyfr Glas Nebo wedi creu argraff syfrdanol ers ei chyhoeddi. Ychydig dros wythnos ar ôl i'r nofel ennill Medal Ryddiaith Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru yng Nghaerdydd 2018, roedd ailargraffiad yn cael ei baratoi, ac aeth ymlaen i gipio gwobr driphlyg yng nghystadleuaeth Llyfr y Flwyddyn 2019 ym mis Mehefin eleni.

Tara Bethan sy'n chwarae rhan y fam, Rowenna, gydag Eben James yn chwarae'r mab, Siôn.

"Mae cael bod yn rhan o addasu Llyfr Glas Nebo i'r llwyfan yn anrhydedd mawr i mi - does ddim amheuaeth mai hon yw un o'r nofelau Cymraeg mwyaf cyffrous yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf," meddai Tara.

"Mae hi'n stori sy'n hitio’n galed ac yn herio ni i gwestiynu’r byd rydym yn byw ynddi heddiw. Dwi’n caru'r ffaith bod y cymeriadau yn llwyddo i oroesi yn erbyn y disgwyl - mae'n anhygoel sut rydym yn ymdopi ac addasu mewn sefyllfaoedd anodd."

Mae'r perfformiad ar y 10fed yn cynnwys uwchdeitlau Saesneg - bydd hefyd sesiwn holi ac ateb gyda'r cast a'r tîm artistig yn syth ar ôl y perfformiad yma.

Manon Steffan Ros ei hun sy'n gyfrifol am addasu i'r llwyfan, gydag Elgan Rhys yn cyfarwyddo. Elin Steele yw cynllunydd y set a’r gwisgoedd a Robin Edwards (R.Seiliog) yw'r cyfansoddwr.

"Wrth gwrs, nid oedd amheuaeth mai Manon fyddai’n addasu’r gwaith. Mae wedi byw gyda’r cymeriadau ers amser maith, yn eu hadnabod yn well na neb ac yn gwybod pa mor bell i’w gwthio," meddai Nia Jones, Cyfarwyddwr Gweithredol Frân Wen.

"Rydym wedi gweithio droeon gyda Manon dros y blynyddoedd - dechreuodd ei gyrfa broffesiynol gyda Frân Wen fel actores bron i ugain mlynedd yn ôl ac wedyn yn fwy diweddar fel dramodydd - felly rydym yn gwybod pa mor agored yw hi i arbrofi a manteisio i’r eithaf ar yr hyn y gall ‘theatr’ fel cyfrwng ei gynnig i stori dda."

Elgan Rhys sydd yn cyfarwyddo’r cynhyrchiad: "Bydd y cynhyrchiad yn gorfodi’r gynulleidfa i gwestiynu sut maent yn cynnal a charu ac yn ymdrin â’r byd o’u cwmpas. Mae Manon wedi llwyddo i ychwanegu dimensiwn newydd i'r stori lwyfan sydd yn ein cyffroi ni gyd."

"Mae’n braf iawn i wybod y bydd teuluoedd cyfan yn gallu profi gwefr y ddrama efo’i gilydd ac y bydd yn esgor ar fwy o drafod y pwnc pwysig a chyfoes hwn. Edrychwn ymlaen hefyd i weld ysgolion yn llenwi’r theatr gan fod y nofel wedi ei gynnwys fel un o lyfrau gosod cwricwlwm Cymraeg TGAU."

STAGE ADAPTATION FOR LITERARY PHENOMENON SET FOR CARDIFF

The highly anticipated stage adaptation of the literary phenomenon Llyfr Glas Nebo is coming to Cardiff this spring.

There will be three performances at Sherman Theatre on the 10th and 11th of February 2020 as part of national tour.

The drama by Frân Wen, in partnership with Galeri, tells the incredible story of Siôn, his mother Rowenna and his young sister, Dwynwen, as they try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

The novel has made a huge impression since its publication nearly 12 months ago. A week after winning the Prose Medal in the 2018 Cardiff National Eisteddfod, a reprint was being prepared, and in June it swept the boards at the Wales Book of the Year awards.

Tara Bethan plays the mother of Rowenna, with Eben James playing her son, Sion.

"It's a huge honour to play a part in adapting Llyfr Glas Nebo for the stage - there's no doubt that it's one of the most exciting Welsh novels in recent years," said Tara.

"It's a story that hits hard and challenges us to question the world we live in today. I love the fact that the characters manage to survive against all expectations - it's amazing how we cope and adapt in difficult situations."

The performance on the 10th will have English surtitles - and there will be a Q&A session with the cast and creative team immediately after.

Manon Steffan Ros herself is responsible for adapting to the stage, with Elgan Rhys directing, set and costume designer is Elin Steele and the original score will be created by composer R.Seiliog.

"It was a no-brainer to ask Manon to adapt it for the stage. She's lived with the characters for a longtime, she knows them more than anybody and understands how far she can push them," said Nia Jones, Frân Wen's Executive Director.

"We've worked a lot with her over the years - in fact her first professional job was with Frân Wen as an actor nearly 20 years ago and more recently as a playwright - so we know how open she is to explore and capitalize on what theatre as a medium can offer to a good story."

"By adapting this gripping story to stage, it will bring to life the wealth of Manon’s imagination, characterization and linguistic skills. We're aiming to force the audience to question how they live, love and care about the world around them," said director Elgan.

"She has managed to add new dimensions to this story that we're all really excited about."

BOOK REVIEWS

“It sets itself apart from the others and stays there until the very end. This creates excitement and sends shivers down the spine.” Sonia Edwards, Prose Medal judge, Cardiff National Eisteddfod 2018

"A small book that's already made a huge impact. The story of this little family is humorous and intense - simple but breathtaking and painfully powerful at times." Dylan Ebenezer, Wales Book of the Year 2019 judge.

"The general reaction is that it's a easy-to-read novel that stays in the mind for a long time. That's the gift that Manon Steffan Ros has; she creates characters you worry about and scenes that are equally alarming and credible, albeit unreal." Catrin Beard.
