LYNN HUNTER AND MICHAEL SHEEN IN MUM and DAD by GARY OWEN

LYNN HUNTER AND MICHAEL SHEEN IN
MUM and DAD by GARY OWEN Sherman Theatre has released two short plays written and donated by award-winning Welsh playwright and Sherman Theatre Associate Artist Gary Owen (Iphigenia in Splott, Killology and The Cherry Orchard). The plays are now available to view online with performances from celebrated actors Lynn Hunter and Michael Sheen.
The two short monologues, titled MUM and DAD, were kindly donated by the writer to form part of Sherman Theatre’s Interval programme. Interval is an evolving series of projects designed to support the Sherman’s artistic and freelance community, and give audiences the exceptional new writing they are used to whilst the theatre is closed.
Writer and Sherman Theatre Associate Artist, Gary Owen, said: “MUM and DAD are two tiny pieces, near-verbatim records of stories told me by my mum and my dad about their lives growing up in Pembrokeshire. They’re too little to ever be put on as theatre pieces, so it’s a huge treat to have them performed now as part of the Sherman’s lockdown programme. “They’re about things that happened before I was born, before my parents ever met. So to me they’re mythical, even though I know they’re real. Lynn and Michael are two actors who never, ever patronise the characters they play, whatever foolish or malicious things those characters might get up to. They make the characters they play real. And in these glorious performances, they turn these little legends back into real life again. I’m incredibly grateful to both of them, and to the Sherman for hosting the pieces.”
Sherman Theatre’s Artistic Director, Joe Murphy, said: “The donation of these two plays is an extraordinary, and characteristically generous, gift from Gary Owen. It is so amazing to see the support and community spirit of our artists and audiences in these strange and uncertain times. And that support is vital in allowing us to survive this crisis, and for us to be able to thrive once it’s over. Performed by two exceptional actors, I feel like these small pieces are a real treat and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.”
Sherman Theatre would like to thank everyone involved for their generosity and time to make this project happen.

Mae Theatr y Sherman wedi rhyddhau dwy ddrama fer, sydd wedi eu ysgrifennu a’u rhoddi gan Artist Cyswllt Theatr y Sherman, y dramodydd Cymreig amryddawn, Gary Owen (Iphigenia in Splott, Killology a The Cherry Orchard). Mae’r dramâu nawr ar gael i’w gwylio ar-lein gyda’r actorion blaenllaw Lynn Hunter a Michael Sheen yn eu perfformio.
Mae’r ddwy fonolog, MUM a DAD, yn wedi eu rhoi yn hael gan yr awdur i ffurfio rhan o raglen Theatr y Sherman, Egwyl. Mae Egwyl yn gyfres o brosiectau sy’n cael eu datblygu i gefnogi cymuned artistig a llawrydd y Sherman, ac i roi i’n cynulleidfaoedd yr ysgrifennu newydd gwych y maent wedi arfer ei weld, er fod ein theatr ar gau.
Dywedodd Gary Owen, yr awdur ac Artist Cyswllt Theatr y Sherman, Mae MUM a DAD yn ddau ddarn byr, bron iawn yn gofnod gair am air o straeon ddywedodd fy rhieni wrtha i ynglŷn â’u magwraeth yn Sir Benfro. Mae nhw’n rhy fyr i gael eu dangos fel darnau o theatr, felly mae’n braf iawn eu bod yn cael eu perfformio nawr, fel rhan o raglen y Sherman.” “Mae’n nhw’n sôn am bethau ddigwyddodd cyn i mi gael fy ngeni, a chyn i fy rhieni gyfarfod ei gilydd. Felly i mi, mae nhw fel chwedlau, er fy mod i’n gwybod eu bod nhw’n wir. Dyw Lynn a Michael byth yn nawddoglyd wrth chwarae cymeriadau sy’n gwneud pethau twp neu faleisus. Mae nhw’n dod a’r cymeriadau yn fyw. Ac yn y perfformiadau godidog hyn, mae nhw’n dod a’r arwyr yma yn ôl i fywyd go iawn. Rwy’n hynod o ddiolchgar i’r ddau ohonynt, ac i’r Sherman am gyflwyno’r darnau.”
Dywedodd Joe Murphy, Cyfarwyddwr Artistig Theatr y Sherman, “Mae Gary Owen wedi rhoi’r ddwy ddrama yma i ni, sy’n nodweddiadol o hael, ac yn anrheg arbennig. Mae hi’n anhygoel gweld y gefnogaeth a’r ysbryd cymunedol gan ein artistiaid a’n cynulleidfaoedd yn y cyfnod rhyfedd ac ansicr hwn. Mae’r gefnogaeth hon yn hanfodol er mwyn ein galluogi i oroesi yr argyfwng hwn, ac er mwyn i ni ffynnu unwaith y bydd hyn drosodd. Mae’r dramâu yma, sy’n cael eu perfformio gan ddau actor eithriadol, yn bleser i’w gwylio, ac rwy’n gobeithio y gwnewch chi eu mwynhau gymaint a wnes i.”
Hoffai Theatr y Sherman ddiolch i bawb oedd yn gysylltiedig a’r prosiect am eu haelioni ac am roi eu amser i’r prosiect.
Wedi ei lleoli yng nghanol Caerdydd mae Theatr y Sherman yn ymroi i greu theatr arbennig sy’n berthnasol i gynulleidfaoedd yng Nghaerdydd, Cymru a thu hwnt. Nawr yn fwy nag erioed, mae’r Sherman yn ddibynnol ar gefnogaeth a rhoddion ariannol er mwyn gallu parhau i gyflwyno profiadau theatrig gwych i’n cynulleidfaoedd. I gyfrannu i Theatr y Sherman, ewch i shermantheatre.co.uk. Gellir gwylio MUM a DAD ar shermantheatre.co.uk
