Frida & Diego – a love story

Greg Cullen’s award-winning play opens at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre on September 5, 2003, before touring throughout Wales. This is the first tour from NYTW for two years – it also marks Greg’s debut in his new role as artistic director of NYTW.

The extraordinary life and death of Frida Kahlo, renowned for her surrealist self-portraits and her tumultuous love affair with fellow Mexican artist Diego Rivera, lies at the heart of Greg’s play. Winner of an Edinbugh Fringe Festival award – and later staged at the Royal National Theatre as well as in Frida’s native Mexico – The Guardian described the play’s daring mix of live music, poetry, painting and revolutionary politics as “fierce, passionate, beautiful.”

“Everything theatre should be, passionate, funny, musical, sexy, well performed and about something meaningful..”
(Richard Eyre on Frida and Diego – a love story)
