Autumn Season preview

National Dance Company Wales , Dance House at Wales Millennium Cente , September 27, 2009
Autumn Season preview by National Dance Company Wales National Dance Company Wales have previewed their autumn international dance programme displaying the typical flair and panache that we have come to expect from the innovative organisation.

In the first season since dropping Diversions, the newly-rebranded company has managed to indeed live up to the raised expectations, presenting three pieces that will tour Wales, opening in Llandudno on September 29, visit venues in England and then go on to China as they increase their presence on the international stage.

The dances showcase the breadth of the talent within the company and their versatility with complex, emotional and searching pieces.

The three pieces are the emotionally raw opening piece by Roy Campbell-Moore, Hinterland and a post war style highly entertaining and theatrical intoxicating dream Lunatic by Nigel Charnock.

The central work is the fascinating company debut by Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis Veil of Stars which bursts from the depths of the imagination, charged with atmospheric passion which somehow manages to combine glitter, cat suits, animalesque movement and visual brilliance.

After returning to the UK the dances hit Wales Millennium Centre on November 3 as they join in the fifth birthday celebrations with what will be a special night being, I suspect, the only new main stage performance that has been made here in Wales rather than produced elsewhere and brought in.

This is dance that must not be missed. Thanks to the range of styles, from caressing, cool and classical to big, bold and brazen, whether you are a traditional dance fan or looking for something a little different.
