Another four stars for another company of Wales |

![]() “Calm and meditative, Fran Wen's tale of a little girl coming to terms with the birth of her brother is built on the kind of child's play its young audience of pre-primary school children will easily understand. It rises out of flowing, almost ambient swaying dance from Nansi (Cet Haf) and her best friend Cai (Elgan Rhys) as the audience find their seats. And the story is simply one of their playtime, of becoming animals and exploring noises, but then, with her little brother crying in the background, Nansi becoming obsessed with elephants. Cai doesn't want to play elephants all the time, and he leads them on a long exploration to see elephants in Africa. The telling is clear and simple, its use of dance adding greatly to the movement, particularly in Haf's creation of a swaying elephant with just a silver glove to indicate the end of its trunk. The deeper meanings – of a child's concern at rejection and the power of friendship – will probably pass over young ones' heads, but there is no problem in having something in a production which speaks to everyone in the audience. Indeed, it earns this simple show, which is in danger of being simply 'delightful', its fourth star.” |
