“Blodwen Back and Better Than Ever”

Wales at Edinburgh Fringe in the 2020s

Blodwen's in Business- Emily Davis , Fingers Piano Bar- Edinburgh , August 29, 2024
Wales at Edinburgh Fringe in the 2020s by Blodwen's in Business- Emily Davis The description read:

“Blodwen’s back, with a fancy job, a wardrobe full of pencil skirts and a lust for office life (she could find adventure in a paper clip – and does!). But what happens when the shine wears off..?

“This is the third in a series of Emily Davis’ one-woman musical comedy cabarets, which follow Blodwen as she leaves her hometown in rural West Wales and travels to London and Paris in her quest for romance and adventure. Emily recently performed the second show, Blodwen’s in Town, here in April.

“This is Emily’s third consecutive Edinburgh Fringe show as part of PBH’s Free Fringe. Pob lwc, Blod!”

From Three Weeks:

“For anyone who has worked in an office, this show is for you! From performing the formal wacky introduction to HR, to the overtly funny and flirtatious over-the-phone long term relationship with a supplier to the Cooperate team building day out,

“Emily Davies proves herself to be very charming, extremely talented and the show will bring great memories of office life rushing back – why you changed career!

“Emily is from a small village in Pembrokeshire called Llanfairacheraron and uses the notion of her country girl naivety as a contrast to the team-based heady highs of the big business, office based life she is desperately seeking. A must-see, fun, and light hearted look at office life.”

Audience reactions read:

“Blodwen is back and better than ever! We always have a great time catching up with Blodwen and this year was no different. Good for a sing song and a joke, we would really recommend.”

“Blodwen’s a sweet and innocent, happy, smiley young woman from a tiny town in Wales that no one’s heard of. She’s working as a waitress in a local cafe making next to nothing, when one day she decides to go to London and climb the corporate ladder to success, and possibly a yacht!”

“This is a very funny, endearing tale of a fish out of water, a musical comedy and a light satire on success, big business and the vanity of those who consider themselves to be the hot-shot higher ups.
The naivety of the character is offset by the power of her beautiful singing voice.”

“This show's an absolute delight.”

“Emily Davis, who plays Blodwen, is such an warm-hearted talent. If you want something to put a smile on your face and restore your belief in the power of goodness and innocence, then check out this wonderful show.

"A shout out to the pianist (James?) who accompanies Blodwen as she hits those high notes, figuratively and literally. I loved it!”

“Emily's ability to create characters and to reveal the self-importance we all attach to ourselves and our lives is a delight to watch. Her journey with Blodwen - from Town to Paris to Business - is a distillation of a small life which is universal.

"The fact that she writes her own songs and performs them with a voice and personality and humour that needs to be heard makes me wonder why she is not a household name. Go see for yourself.”
