MORE than £100m extra will be ploughed into the arts to boost regional theatre and get children involved in new creative partnerships, it was announced yesterday.
Culture Secretary Chris Smith unveiled a three-year plan which will see the arts funding baseline rise from #238m to #338m a year by 2003/4. It comes a month after Arts Council chairman Gerry Robinson called for urgent Government action to increase the annual arts budget by that amount. Mr Smith also announced he was doubling funding for sports projects, with an increase of #50m. |
