![]() The Sherman are holding auditions for the Norman Beaton Fellowship, which is an initiative set up to broaden the range of actors available to Radio Drama producers across the UK by encouraging applicants from non-training backgrounds. Since the Norman Beaton Fellowship was launched, the scheme has welcomed actors from under-represented areas in Radio Drama casting, and welcomes interest from disabled actors and those from Black and Ethnic minority backgrounds. Participants must be over 18 (no upper age limit) and must not have attended an accredited drama school course. Norman Beaton is perhaps best remembered for his role as the cantankerous barber shop owner in the iconic Desmonds. Throughout his life he consistently broke down barriers from becoming the first black teacher in Liverpool to establishing the Black Theatre of Brixton. The Sherman’s Education, Youth and Participation Manager and audition co-ordinator, Dinos Aristidou comments: “The Sherman are committed to developing fresh talent which is why we got involved with this great scheme - It’s a fantastic opportunity for those who haven’t trained at a professional drama school, and offers invaluable experience to anyone looking to further their career in this field.” Preliminary auditions will be held at The Sherman Theatre, Cardiff on Monday 22 January at 5.30pm. Please call Elin Partridge, Assistant Administrator at The Sherman Theatre on 029 2064 6901 or email admin@shermantheatre.co.uk to register for an audition and for more information. |
