Curtains for city festival? Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre could be taken away from the city because of a lack of financial backing.

The festival has been held in the capital three times over the last six years and has attracted visitors from all over the world including Australia, South Africa and America.

Despite three years of success the festival board has found it difficult to attract more financial backing for the festival on top of the money provided by Cardiff council and BBC Cymru Wales.

The board say they are now considering opportunities to take the festival to another host city over the coming years.

'The festival has truly pushed Cardiff to the forefront of musical theatre across the world - major producers on Broadway and in the West End now look to see what is happening at the festival as an indication of where musical theatre is heading,' said Sir Roger Jones OBE, chairman of the board of the festival.
