Rehearsals are currently underway in our newly refurbished and rebuilt Drama Centre in Llandrindod Wells for the new community touring production Angel. Angel will be the first production to have been produced since the company’s return to The Drama Centre in October 2006. The play has been written for the Company by Chris Cooper, author of A Christmas Carol, Morgiana’s Dance and All at Sea. It’s a gem. A poetic, imagistic and inspirational play for all who know what it is to be young and wise. Hywel’s Dad is away fighting in Egypt. Mam is washing and sweeping and trying to keep on top of the mess. School has sprung a leak and Mr Dee, the headmaster is spinning out of control. Deryn is about the only person Hywel can get any sense out of. Then he meets Cinders. She is an angel – arrived on the wind. Rock and Roll music fills the air and the tick-tocking grows louder in Hywel’s head. Everyone needs an angel, especially Hywel. But why has she come? Angel has been directed by Artistic Director, Ian Yeoman. Music and sound by Hugh Fowler (and a host of stars including Elvis). Design by Alan Swapp, costumes by Jill Rolfe and lighting by Iain MacKenzie-Humphreys. Iwan Charles and Olwen Medi join resident acting company Chris Batten, Danie Croft and Naomi Doyle on stage. Angel opens at Trefeglwys Memorial Hall on Wednesday 21 February 2007 at 7.30pm and then tours extensively across Wales and into England during the last week until the end of March.
