Welsh Independent Dance

Welsh Independent Dance Wales based choreographers Deborah Light and Chloe Loftus will be presenting their work as part of a nine venue tour of Wales during March and April. The talented choreographers were commissioned to develop their work for small scale touring through Welsh Independent Dance’s annual choreographic development programme, dance bytes. The programme began in April 1998 to support and facilitate the creation of new work from Wales based choreographers and has helped launch a number of careers including Jem Treays, Tanja Råman, Mr & Mrs Clark, Sandra Harnisch-Lacey and Eddie Ladd.

There are three stages to the scheme and both pieces have been carefully created and developed from initial choreographic ideas to the accomplished pieces presented on tour.

Deborah delves into the mysterious world of Angelica where emotions, fears and desires take over. Angelica is a dark semi-gothic fairytale inspired by the art and literature of Brian Froud. It is a heightened reflection of human nature delving into our fears and exposing the beautiful and dark side of our character.

In contrast Chloe draws on a fascination with ‘people watching’, in her light-hearted look at the classic boy meets girl scenario. From body language to highly physical contact work, ‘Scuse Me explores communication without words.

Come and see some of the best experimental dance that Wales has to offer in this highly physical and engaging programme ideal for first time dance audiences and regular dance lovers.
