Trestle at St Donats Catch sumptuous storytelling theatre, vibrant visuals, and powerful physical action
at the only Welsh performance by Trestle Theatre Company

Trestle, one of the UK’s leading touring theatre companies, renowned in the past for its life-size masked performances, is back on tour and performing their only Welsh date at St Donats Arts Centre on Saturday 24 March at 7.30pm with a brand new show, Little India.

Little India re-tells the classical Indian story of Shakuntala for a modern time and a modern audience - a great example of contemporary storytelling theatre that will inspire and entrance audiences. The performance of Little India combines Trestle’s rich physical style with poetic text, martial arts choreography and beautiful music.

The performance will be Trestle’s first ever production in 26 years without masks and their first international collaboration commissioned by the company’s new Artistic Director, Emily Gray, who joined Trestle from Glasgow-based TAG in April 2004.

“Thank you for your performance – it was inspirational, especially the Kalari; having never seen these movements before I am most intrigued …will have to find out more. A classical story beautifully told.” Student, 2006

“This is a rare piece of theatre, truly absorbing.” The Stage

“A highly imaginative company” The Times

Over the last 26 years Trestle has established a reputation for high quality, innovative, contemporary theatre with a strong visual and physical nature. Whilst there are no masks in this production, this ethos does not change.

Little India is a rich mix of eastern and western theatre styles, language and music resulting from a collaboration with Indian Theatre company, Little Jasmine and draws on the South Indian traditions of Kalaripayatt (Indian martial art), Konokol (rhythmic patterns) and Mudras (hand gestures). The production features beautiful music from Bangalore-based composer and musician, Konarak Reddy who has recently completed his own European tour.

This promises to be a very special performance. If you would like to book a ticket (adult £11, reductions £9), please contact the St Donats Box Office on 01446 799100.
