Just had a very interesting letter from Jenny Randerson, the Lib Dem AM for Cardiff Central. She writes : 'the Lib Dem Group has asked for a suspension of the (Arts) Council's whole Drama strategy, pending the outcome of the Arts & Culture review at present being carried out by the Assembly's Post-16 Education & Training Committee. Unfortunately, we were told that, to attempt to suspend the Drama Strategy, would actually pre-empt the outcome of the review and our request was, therefore, rejected'. Pardon?! The TIE part of it's supended, did that pre-empt the review? Seems to me the only bit of the strategy left is to close down MIW... How would suspending this decision pre-empt the Assembly's review? And who actually said it would? When phoning Jenny Randerson's office I was not disabused of the notion that it was Tom Middlehurst that well-known ex-chair of Theatr Clwyd without whose unflinching support surely one or two ACW heads would have rolled by now). Meanwhile, on our last working day of financial existence we still have no word from ACW as to whether they will actually hear our appeal, let alone when. So, if we do get a date it will be when we already don't exist as a funded body... This is what ACW meant when they said they would 'manage change responsibly'. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Made In Wales is working in New York next week... Cheers - jeff teare |
