Swansea Grand breaks the £3,000,000 barrier!
|
For the first time in its 110 year existence, Swansea Grand Theatre has recorded Box office takings of over £3,000,000 for its last financial year
This represents an increase of 7% of income on the 2005/06 financial year)
High selling shows and productions like 'Blood Brothers', 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', 'Dora the Explorer', 'Welsh National Opera' and 'Moscow City Ballet' all helped to achieve this fantastic result.
But 'regulars' such as the annual Christmas Pantomime alongside the popular Summer Repertory Season, the sell-out Comedy Clubs, Comedians Lenny Henry, Jimmy Carr, popular entertainers like Joe Longthorne and many other performers and performances at the theatre and its Arts Wing have all contributed to an exceptional trading period for the No.1 Regional Theatre for South West Wales which has seen 257,490 paying customers coming through its doors.
A delighted Grand Theatre General Manager, Gary Iles said "This outcome at our Box office is an amazing and a very rewarding achievement for South West Wales' major presenting theatre.
It is a testament to the hard work and long hours put in by the Grand Theatre team,
but I think it is also proof positive that the people of South Wales are supporting our theatre as never before. We really hope this upward trend continues well into the future.
To all our customers, we would like to say a big thank you for their continuing support".
Cabinet Member for Culture, Regeneration and Tourism at the City and County of Swansea, (owners and chief funders of the Grand Theatre), Councillor Gerald Clement commented. "This is a tremendous time for the Grand Theatre and the theatre going public of South West Wales!
The Grand has again proved itself to be one of the main cultural attractions in our region and with the continued hard work of all those involved in the operation of the theatre, I think we can all look forward to its ongoing success"
Swansea Grand Theatre has just launched it's new Summer Season with music, dance, drama, opera, comedy and children's shows and features another host of great attractions including the musical 'Buddy', the Summer Repertory Season, which this year has it's best ever line-up of star names taking part and the exciting new Mal Pope musical - 'Contender' with Mike Doyle, Peter Karrie and Chris Needs.
