“Ruling the Roost” a new play by Glenys Evans
|
On Thursday 3 May 2007, Hijinx Theatre will begin the whistle-stop national tour of Wales and England of their new spring show Ruling the Roost at The Riverfront.
Ruling the Roost is aimed at adults with learning disabilities, their families and communities. The themes of this wonderful heart-warming play are relationships, decision-making and attitudes to work, creating an exciting piece of theatre that is truly accessible to all.
Old Mama is full of excitement – a visit from Working Daughter and the Boy – her grandson – who ‘looks like a filmstar’. Working Daughter is shocked to see how Old Mama is slowing down, letting things slip. The daily chores are a struggle but she brings good news from the family and a present, a very special present that will change Old Mama’s life for ever. In a rustic Mediterranean setting, Ruling the Roost focuses on family and relationships, fusing storytelling with music and spectacular puppetry to explore the clash of generations as they struggle to do what’s best.
Can you ever know what’s best for someone else? What does work mean to different generations? Meanwhile... can anybody catch the goat before it eats everything?
Hijinx Theatre is one of the UK's leading small scale touring companies, with over twenty five years experience of producing theatre for people with learning disabilities and their communities. We offer the thrill of live theatre; bringing to life characters, themes and issues which are relevant, challenging and inspiring.
