ACTORS TARGET CARDIFF

ACTORS TARGET CARDIFF Members of the performer’s trade union, Equity, will be flocking to Cardiff later this week not to search of leading parts or to entertain the crowds but to discuss policy and plan campaigns for the next year.

Autograph hunters in Cardiff Bay this weekend may get more than they bargained for as the union’s National Annual Conference will be held in the city for the first time ever in its seventy seven year history.

General Secretary Christine Payne said: “This is only the third time that our Annual Conference has been held outside London. We are looking forward to coming to Cardiff, as it is well known as being at the forefront of some of the moist exciting developments in our industry. There is the Wales Millennium Centre, Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Welsh National Opera to name but four. Our agenda ranges across a whole spectrum of concerns as we move ever further into the digital age. We will be having three days of very important and wide-ranging discussions about all aspects of our work, but we will make sure we have enough free time to enjoy the city and its attractions.”

Welsh National Organiser Chris Ryde added: “Wales based members of Equity have campaigned for a number of years to bring the Annual Conference here and are determined that it will be a rousing success.”

The Conference starts on May 19th and runs through to May 21st. The Conference will be opened by the new Lord Mayor and includes an evening of entertainment at the Coal Exchange. There will also be an address by the First Minister.
