Students Present Gory Tale of Lust and Corruption

Students Present Gory Tale of Lust and Corruption The students of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will present Women Beware Women, a gory tale of lust and corruption at The Sherman Theatre from Friday 25 May – Saturday 2 June.

Hailed as Romeo and Juliet for grown-ups, Women Beware Women is Thomas Middleton’s iconic tragedy in which three young people are corrupted and seduced by lust in its darkest form.

The cast are in their final year of studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Women Beware Women will provide the students with their most challenging production to date. Director Michael Houghton comments:

“We’re training for a business that will present immense challenges to these young actors. They graduate next month and could be immediately exposed in their first professional job. They must be pushed to exceed their own expectations and be prepared to explore areas that this kind of professional training can give them.”

Set in modern Italy, the look and feel of the production is that of the classic cult-film The Godfather. After Leantio and Bianca elope, Leantio makes the mistake of going off to work instead of staying in bed with his new wife. And while the men are away, in the brutal world of exploitation, class and hierarchy, the results become frightening and often bloody. Director Michael Houghton continues:

“Like a good soap opera, this Jacobean drama has it all. A plethora of greed, blood, violence and sex. In short, if you have ever enjoyed a good Shakespearean blood-fest then come and see this!”

Women Beware Women is on at The Sherman Theatre on Friday 25 May – Saturday 2 June (No performances on Sunday 27- Monday 28 May). Tickets are £8 (Reductions £6) and can be booked from The Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900.
