Summer Circus & Film Festival at WMC

Summer Circus & Film Festival at WMC Wales Millennium Centre will, for the first time, be hosting a film and circus festival during the summer season in a bid to attract a new audience and first time attendees through its doors.

From 13-19 August, the Donald Gordon Theatre in the Centre will be taken over by films such as the 1987 hit dance movie Dirty Dancing, the classic Jailhouse Rock to mark the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death as well as sing-a-long-a Sound of Music and Joseph (full details in notes to editors).

NoFit State Circus, based in Cardiff, will be bringing their award winning show ImMortal for three weeks in September (3rd-20th) where they will perform in the oval basin in Cardiff Bay. This show takes place above, around and amongst the audience in an explosion of furious fun and choreographed mayhem.

Chief Executive of Wales Millennium Centre Judith Isherwood explains, “We are constantly trying to attract and appeal to new audiences through our programming and thought that such events would welcome people not only to the theatre but also to Wales Millennium Centre for the first time.

“With it being the height of summer, these festivals will I’m sure attract a great deal of families and visitors of all ages. It is important that we listen to our customers and provide them with a range of art forms. This will form part of our audience development and introduce people to theatre in different ways.”

For those of you not yet converted, Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music and Joseph is a screening of the classic film musical in glorious, full-screen technicolour complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along. Fancy dress is not obligatory but highly recommended! Tickets for an evening at the movies range from £5-£10.

For those attending the circus, each member of the audience will enjoy a different experience, have a different perspective on the spectacle and immerse themselves into everything that surrounds them. You will become part of this mad, bad and dangerous-to-know (or get too close to) community of vagabonds, freaks and larger-than-life characters. Tickets for this performance range from £14-£16.
