It’s going to be a busy two weeks for Martin! Martin has landed the part of ultimate evil when he steps over to the dark side as Dr Diablo in Odyssey Theatre’s production of The Fall of the House of Wax by Richard Berry, sponsored by Tesco Charitable Trust. In traditional Odyssey style the play pays nodding acknowledgement to many of the classics including Faustus – Dr Diablo collects the souls of innocents! He is having an open house - all are welcome to enter, but this is where your dreams turn into nightmares… and didn’t you recognise some of those wax sculptures as you came in – and why can’t you leave? The Fall of the House of Wax is riddled with enchantment and intrigue, but always injected with Odyssey’s unique comic style.

Is this really a dark and grisly end for Martin? No - his soul will be redeemed just a few days later when he makes the transition into the epitome of good as he plays ‘The Trickster’ in Matthew’s Passion created by Theatr Ffynnon and directed by Chris Durnall at Theatr Brecheiniog, with roles also being taken by Pupils from Ysgol Penmaes, Brecon.

Martin, who has played a variety of characters over the years, including Charlie Chaplin and The Scarecrow (The Ozard of Wiz), now faces his biggest challenge to date – taking two very diverse roles - and all within a week!

Odyssey Theatre is a community participatory group that is open to all members of the public including adults with learning disabilities. With full professional support they mount two productions a year usually taking a well-know classic tale and adapting it to suit their unique style.

Theatr Ffynnon gives time and space to people with learning disabilities to express themselves through drama, music, dance and the creative arts leading to performances which create opportunities to develop artistic skills, independence and integration with the local community.
