Ghosted

Ghosted Theatr Powys is on the road again touring their new English Theatre in Education (TIE) programme, Ghosted, to Powys schools until the end of term. The programme has been specially devised for Years 4, 5 and 6 (8 to 11 year olds) by the Company. Ghosted concerns Josh, a boy growing up in mid Wales. In a damp old railway culvert on the Heart of Wales line, Josh collides forcibly with a child from far away, struggling in a radically more fearful situation. There is a freedom in ghostliness, you break the surface of life and let the underside come out….. It’s a new dimension brining in time, reconnecting people….
Ghosted breaks the surface and the silence and propels young people imaginatively and immediately to explore the nature of their world and create the ‘self’ who will live in it.

Theatr Powys moved back into its refurbished base The Drama Centre last autumn and Ghosted is the first TIE programme to be produced from the new base. For 35 years the Company has produced TIE programmes and touring plays for the schools and communities of Powys and wider Wales. Young people, their engagement with the world and the role of the imagination in their development, has always been central to the artistic and educational practice of the Company.

Ghosted will tour again in the autumn term alongside a Welsh programme Tu Chwith.

Future projects to look out for include:

∑ Mid Powys Youth Theatre Summer School – a 2 week project run by Shakespeare Link at Penlanole, near Rhayader culminating in a performance at The Living Willow Theatre (see information below) on Saturday 18 August 2007 and a promenade performance on Sunday 19 August 2007 as part of the Llandrindod Victorian Festival.

∑ Art Exhibitions – a series of art exhibitions featuring work by local artists will be mounted at the Drama Centre, the first will be opened at the end of July.

∑ Cinderella by Charles Way – Mid Powys Youth Theatre celebrate their 20th birthday with a spectacular production at the Wyeside Arts Centre from 6 to 10 November 2007. This story of Cinderella has music very much at its core. Alongside all the well-loved traditional characters, the play also features the character of Mozart.

∑ Little Red Riding Hood – a startlingly original telling of a centuries old and much loved fairytale specially devised by the Company will tour to community arts venues in Powys and Wales during February and March 2008.
