Sherman Youth Theatre Tackles Greek Myth
|
The Sherman Youth Theatre present their latest production this week – 18/6, a specially commissioned play about duty, politics and photography based on the Classical Greek myth of the Danaides.
Based on the Greek myth of the fifty daughters of Danaus who all but one killed their husbands at their father’s request on one fateful night of terror – 18/6.
After that night, a story emerges out of the debris and wreckage of memory. A woman locked in a bunker tries to make sense of her photographs, a child stumbles through the darkness led by an old man, a prince is groomed and forty nine brides rise from the dead.
18/6 is performed by Company 4, the oldest group in the Sherman Youth Theatre made up of young people aged 16-19.
Director Phil MacKenzie comments:
“This is definitely one of the most challenging shows the Youth Theatre have done to date. The piece is set in three worlds and we’re staging it on a catwalk which is surrounded by water – it’s a really exciting show for the young people to be involved in.”
18/6 is on at The Sherman Theatre this Thursday 21 – Friday 22 June at 8pm and Saturday 23 June at 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Tickets are £5 (Reductions £3) and can be booked from The Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900. The show is not suitable for under 13s.
