A Ballet in three acts
Music by Delibes, Choreography by Saint Leon
Sunday 29th July 2.00pm
A special performance of the popular ballet Coppélia is presented
by Swansea Ballet Russe, in conjunction with students from the
Temma Ballet School, Japan, on Sunday 29th July.
For the Japanese students it is the culmination of an intense two
weeks at the annual Summer International Masterclass with the
Swansea based Classical Dance Company of Wales, Ballet Russe
and led by a guest teacher from the world renowned Kirov Ballet
Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia.
Apart from the huge pressure of performing in a fully staged production of Coppélia, the students will also be under the watchful eye of Makoto Hayashi, Deputy Director of the Information and Cultural Centre Embassy of Japan who will be joined by Sir Christopher Clarke, (Royal Society of Arts Secretary), Councillor Rodney Berman, (Leader of Cardiff Council), Dr Eric Albone (incoming RSA Chair and winner of Japan Society Award 2007) and Mr Ron Kirkby RSA (Wales) Chair.
The visit will be hosted by a Swansea Civic party which includes The Lord Mayor and Consort, of the City and County of Swansea, Cllr Susan Waller and Dr. Alan Thomas, the Leader of the City and County of Swansea, Cllr. Chris Holly and Cabinet Member for Culture and Regeneration, Cllr. Gerald Clement. The Company will be presented to the VIP party immediately following the performance.
Coppélia is a simple story, packed with colour and movement easily understood by everyone from aficionados to young children. With the music of Leo Delibes and Choreography by Arthur Saint-Leon it is brought magically to life in this production.
Tickets for this special performance are on sale from the Theatre Box office, 01792 475715, www.swanseagrand.co.uk with tickets priced from £6.00 - £12.00 and concessions available. |
