This year’s Autumn season at the Sherman will signal a new direction and a re-launch of the newly merged Sherman Theatre Company and Sgript Cymru, with a programme of world class new writing, contemporary theatre, comedy and dance.

Highlights of the season will include three new in-house productions starting with Maes Terfyn, a new Welsh language play by acclaimed Welsh poet and musician Gwyneth Glyn. Maes Terfyn, which will open at the Sherman on 19 - 22 September before touring throughout Wales, tackles issues of the Welsh language set on the Llyn Penninsula.
The Sherman will also continue to present excellent theatre for families this Christmas with the mainstage production, Beauty and the Beast by Charles Way. Beauty and the Beast will bring a dark and magical element to this classic fairytale and will run at the Sherman Theatre from 30 November – 12 January.
The Devoted Friend will also provide a unique theatrical experience for the under 6’s opening at the Sherman on 2 - 3 November, then embarking on a tour throughout Wales, before returning to the Sherman for its Christmas run on 3 - 29 December. The Devoted Friend, by Oscar Wilde is an enchanting tale of friendship and loyalty and this production will see children invited into the world of the story through innovative sets, costumes and puppetry.
The Sherman Theatre will also welcome a range of internationally acclaimed visiting companies this Autumn. The National Theatre will make a welcome return to Cardiff this Autumn with two exciting new plays that have received critical acclaim from young audiences in London. Citizenship by Mark Ravenhill and Chatroom by Enda Walsh are both short plays that will play alongside one another in this exciting double-bill on 23 - 27 October.
Acclaimed theatre company Out of Joint continue the top quality drama with Flight Path, a play about teenage rebellion, on 18 - 20 October along with Rasa Theatre with Shades of Brown, a one-woman show exploring issues of skin colour on 6-7 November.
Forkbeard Fantasy bring their unique sense of fun to the Sherman with Invisible Bonfires on 18 - 19 October and Northern Broadsides present a new play by Blake Morrisson, Lisa’s Sex Strike, based on the classic comedy Lysistrata, on 2 - 3 November. There will also be drama for young people with God is a DJ, an energetic fusion of music and text, on 21 - 22 November.
Taliesin Arts Centre will also tour Goon Bandage, a comedy based on Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan, which comes to the Sherman on 9 October. Clwyd Theatr Cymru will also return with an adaptation of the classic A Toy Epic on 13 - 17 November, along with Hijinx Theatre with The Long Way Home, a traditional folk tale from the heart of old Europe on 28 - 29 September.
Clwyd Theatr Cymru will also present Porth y Byddar, a new play in the Welsh language in collaboration with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, based on the floods of Tryweryn on 25 - 28 September.
The Sherman will also continue to support new writing and emerging artists by continuing ScriptSlam, the monthly script in hand event which showcases short excerpts of new writing. Hide Productions will support this with 16 Northcott Avenue giving a platform to five new writers and five new directors on 26 - 27 September.
The Sherman welcomes top comedy this season kicking off with Father Ted and My Hero star Ardal O’Hanlon on 3 October, followed by the infectious and charming Russell Howard on 16 October. Never Mind the Buzzcocks team captain Sean Hughes completes the comedy line-up with his new show on 1 November.
The Sherman will also celebrate National Poetry Day by welcoming Roger McGough and Brian Patten with 40 Love, a reading their top 20 most requested poems on 4 October.
Dance will also play an integral part of the season line-up with the incredible Siobhan Davies with Two Quartets on 13 October, and dance-performance artist Eddie Ladd with Muscle Memory/Cof y Corff, a bilingual multi-media production on 9 - 10 November.
