A programme of exciting taster workshops is lined up for the Discovery Week / Wythnos Ddarganfod, 17 - 22 September, at Ammanford Miners’ Theatre, as part of Carmarthenshire Theatres’ Move It! scheme to get audiences involved.
The Discovery Week / Wythnos Ddarganfod promises something for all ages and abilities - and it’s free. Adults can try their hand at Modern Jive, Monday 17 at 7.30pm. Based on the Jitterbug and easier than ballroom jive, participants will learn how to swing, yoyo and ladyspin in this rock ‘n’ roll dance style. Tuesday’s Tai Chi class is all about finding the body’s inner balance. This ancient Chinese slow-motion martial art, taking place at 7.30, helps to promote relaxation and relieve stress - as well as teaching some excellent self-defence moves. A fun taster in the Latino rhythms of Salsa takes place Thursday 20, and it’s not just for the fancy-footed - all are welcome, plus it’s a great way to meet new friends.
For those looking for something to do after school, Circus Eruption will be hosting a circus skills workshop, Thursday 20 at 5pm. Young people aged 11+ can learn fun new skills including juggling, plate spinning, Diablo, unicycling and more.
Shake Holes will be hosting a movement open day, Saturday 22 September. These international dance artists will be exploring movement and dance from 10am with Dancing The Unknown, concentrating on free movement and expression, suitable for those with some previous experience. 1pm sees Body Space, a taster workshop for those 12 years and above, where finding fun, ease and grace in moving are explored. Facing In, Facing Out at 2.30pm is an improvisational workshop open to all ages, where the group works in settings, using different patterns to create real-time compositions. The evening performance of Daughter On The Mountain Top, devised and performed by Eleanora Allerdings and Jessica Lerner, wraps up the week at 7.30pm. Falling somewhere between visual art, dance and theatre, Daughter On The Mountain Top explores expressions of the body’s deep issues, echoing relatives from the past through gestural and sculptural movement. Our regular after school drama and ballet classes will be running in addition to the free Discovery Week programme, although there is a small charge for these. Don’t miss your chance to get involved - don’t just view, come and do!
