ON THE EDGE presented by Michael Kelligan NOW I’M TALKING
Autumn 2007 season

A collection of plays from the best of contemporary writing from the world outside Wales.

It is important if theatre produced in Wales is to gain an international reputation, that in addition to the work produced here it acknowledges and embraces the quality of work that is being produced throughout the rest of the world. I feel it is a great pleasure and privilege to have this opportunity to bring these plays to the attention of audiences in Wales. (For further information ring 029 2030 5078)

CARGO BY D J Britton
Directed by the author
In 1968, an Australian hero of the folk-rock movement finds himself caught up in the Prague Spring. A generation later, events in Wenceslas Square catch up with him in a maelstrom of memory and myth. A funny and moving examination of language, politics and the clash of cultural perceptions, this critically-acclaimed dramatic work won Britton the Swan Gold Playwright of the Year award. The first time the play has been seen in Britain.
“Cargo is a beautifully assembled work using imagery, myth, literature, folklore, music and reality to create layer on layer of meaning. It is passionate, has a distinct sense of place and strikes right to the heart.” The Bulletin, Australia.
