Autumn 2007 at Theatr Brycheiniog Theatr Brycheiniog has an abundance of entertainment lined up for its autumn 2007 season. Whether its music, drama, dance or comedy, Brecon’s canal-side venue has something for everyone between now and Christmas.
The highlight of the season is a special double-bill of harp music featuring the home-grown talent of Catrin Finch and the amazing sounds of Colombian llanera group Cimarron. Stopping off in Brecon on 18 November on an exclusive tour of Wales, this promises to be one of the cultural highlights of 2007 in the principality.
Other big musical heroes lining up at Brecon's canal-side venue this autumn include Mercury Music Award nominee Richard Hawley (31 August) and Irish supergroup The Saw Doctors (27 November).
In an exciting development, Theatr Brycheiniog, with the support of Arts Council Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government, is co-producing with German theatre company Gruene Sosse to tour a schools performance of Henry V across Wales - including Brecon on Tuesday 9 October.
In the strongest drama line-up for many seasons, Theatr Brycheiniog also presents a thought-provoking play about Native Americans (The Eagle Dances on 16 October), an affectionate portrayal of Sir Harry Secombe in Goon Bandage (26 October) and a punk comedy inspired by ex-front man of The Clash, Meeting Joe Strummer (2 December).
There will be much interest in Clywd Theatr Cymru's production of A Toy Epic, a stage adaptation of Emyr Humphreys' acclaimed novel. Directed by Tim Baker, this evocative and poignant drama is at Theatr Brycheiniog on 1 and 2 November.


Following the success of Renegade Theatre's production of Rumble and Benji Read's Life Of A B'Boy at the canal-side venue last year, Theatr Brycheiniog presents another ground-breaking piece of hip-hop theatre featuring the best breakdancers in the UK. Catch Busk – Kings Of The Sidewalk on the main stage on 30 October.
Classical music fans are spoilt for choice in Brecon this autumn. Rising star pianist Kerem Hasan is in concert on 1 September, Mid Wales Opera presents their latest production La Boheme on 10 November and The English Serenata presents Walking In The Air narrated by Jeffery Dench on 20 December.
The Brecon Baroque Festival returns in October featuring outstanding international performers including violinist Rachel Podger and Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas.
Audiences can step back in time and re-live the popular music of yesteryear with tributes to Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers on 15 September, the high energy rock'n'roll show At The Hop on 28 September and the return of Billy J McGregor with The Elvis Collection on 13 October.
Music from the 1960's is celebrated with The Billy Fury Story on the 7 December and The Searchers on 9 December.
If its the Seventies style that appeals, there are tributes to Led Zeppelin with Letz Zep on 29 September as well as ABBA and Queen with Bjorn To Rock You on 14 December. Eurovision winners The Brotherhood Of Man, featuring the original four members, is Theatr Brycheiniog's fantastic Christmas party show on 21 December.
Families and children are well catered for at Theatr Brycheiniog over the next few months. Children's TV favourite Brum roars into town on 29 September, Basil Brush returns with a new show on 3 November and this year's Owen Money pantomime stars the man himself in Cinderella at the end of November.


There's a treat for contemporary dance fans when Polish dance company Silesian Dance Theatre visits on 10 October and the always reliable Diversion Dance Company Of Wales present their annual celebration of world choreography on 25 October.
The hilarious Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson and Mike Doyle make long-awaited returns to Brecon on 5 October and 8 December respectively, as do the Mad About The Musicals company (4 October), The Magical Dance Of Ireland (21 September) and European Ballet (with Coppelia on 12 October).
Local groups featuring home-grown talent are the lifeblood of every theatre and Brecon can boast its fair share. Brecon Town Concert Band is in concert on 27 September, Crickhowell High School presents Les Miserables from 18 – 20 October and Powys Dance presents their annual Dance Fest on 1 December. Also, Brecknock Little Theatre presents My Fair Lady from 13 – 17 November as part of Theatr Brycheiniog's 10th Birthday celebrations.
