Margaret Cycles Holyhead to Cardiff on Folding Bike for Charity |
Margaret Jones, General Manager at the Sherman Theatre will cycle from North to South Wales this September on a folding bicycle to raise money for the Parkinson’s Disease Society.Margaret Jones, will take Brompton, her folding bicycle on the Lon Las Cymru route which goes from Holyhead to Cardiff, and is widely regarded as one of the most difficult coast to coast cycle routes. Margaret comments: “My mother was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 1990, and also two close work colleagues have been recently diagnosed. I decided I wanted to do something to raise awareness and understanding of the disease, and to raise funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Society.” Margaret will be joined by friend and colleague Janet Smith, who works at St Donats Arts Centre, who is raising money for Childline UK. Both are keen cyclists and hope to complete the near 300 mile journey in just eight days. Margaret says: “Janet will be undertaking the journey on a much more sensible mountain bike! But I always cycle back and fore to work on my folding bike so decided to do the journey on it! It will make it doubly difficult with a limited amount of gears but it’ll make it even more of a personal challenge for me!” Parkinsons is a progressive condition which affects the body nervous system, which can affect walking, talking and writing. The Parkinson’s Disease Society helps to support people with Parkinson as well as friends, families and carers. Margaret will begin her journey on Monday 10 September and plans to finish, ending at Pontcanna Fields, on Tuesday 18 September.
