A Most Murderous Musical Mystery Comes To Ammanford!

A Most Murderous Musical Mystery Comes To Ammanford! Ammanford Miners’ Theatre gets a sinister twist on September 21. Starring opera singer, actress and butcher Buddug Verona James, A Knife At The Opera is a one-woman show combining music, great singing, comedy and mystery, making for a hugely entertaining and enjoyable night.

Written and directed by Chris Harris (a comic genius), A Knife At The Opera gently pokes fun at critics, performers, detectives and anyone else who takes themselves too seriously - including the show's principal performer, the critically acclaimed virtuosic mezzo soprano and actress, Buddug Verona James. The roles of detective and the six prime suspect divas (Miss Macho, Miss Bagwitch, Miss Baroque, Miss Acrobatics, Miss Diva and Miss Dot Demisemiquaver) are all played by Buddug Verona James, accompanied on the piano by Andrew Wilson-Dickson. The comic story is intertwined with arias by Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Bizet, Tom Johnson and Andrew Wilson-Dickson.

Buddug really is a butcher! Before pursuing her studies, she worked in one of her father's butcher shops in Cardigan and won an award for her artistry in the Royal Welsh Show. Receiving a scholarship from the Welsh Arts Council, she studied with Maestro d'Angelo in Rome and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and her fruitful theatrical career has seen her take on various television, stage and operatic roles. Buddug is an accomplished opera singer and the seven very different characters in A Knife At The Opera will be performing ‘Bramo Di Trionfar’ (Handel’s Alcina), ‘Una Voce Poco Fa’ (Rossini’s Barber Of Seville) and ‘Chanson Bohéme’ (Bizet’s Carmen) amongst other arias.
