![]() Fluellen Theatre Company`s production of Geoff Saunders` new play opens at the Grand Theatre Arts Wing on September 11th and Peter Richards, the company`s Artistic Director, believes that this is far from an unjustifiable claim. “The play is about cancer,” he says “and it traces a man`s white-knuckle ride from his discovery of the disease to his ultimate cure. The playwright, Geoff Saunders, has himself been a victim of testicular cancer – and has beaten it. His play demonstrates how important early detection is and he writes so well, avoiding the obvious mistake of lecturing to his audience, that the important messages that the play contains are couched in humour (yes, humour!) so that, between laughs, the audience will be absorbing valuable information that may actually contribute to saving their lives” The play, in fact, attempts the impossible – and succeeds brilliantly. It is a comedy about cancer. It has some great comic moments as well as being thought-provoking and, at times, heart-wrenching. It challenges pre-conceptions and, ultimately, it is an inspiring work written with the authenticity of someone who has ridden the roller coaster himself. Jack Llewellyn and Tom McLeod both play the leading character, Jack Jackson, with Llinos Thomas as his wife, Anna. Other roles are played by Sian Angharad, Gavin Dando and Jennifer Shakesby. The play plays at Swansea`s Grand Theatre Arts Wing September 11-13th at 7.15pm with a 2.00pm matinee on the 12th September. The production also visits Tenby`s De Valence on 19th September and Birmingham`s Old Joint Stock Theatre 9th-11th October. For full details please visit our website www.fluellentheatre.co.uk |
