Out of Joint and The Bush Theatre present Flight Path At the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff

Out of Joint and The Bush Theatre present Flight Path At the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff Acclaimed theatre company Out of Joint, return to the Sherman Theatre this October with a new play about teenage rebellion and disability.

Flight Path is a funny and unflinching family drama. Offering teenage rebellion with a twist, it focuses on 18 year old Jonathan. Jonathan’s father has just left the family home, his mother has a busy career, and he finds himself torn between alternative worlds – studying and looking after his brother who has Down’s syndrome; and helping his mate out with a spot of burglary.

22 year old playwright David Watson had his first play staged as part of the Royal Court Young Writers Festival when he was just 17. Flight Path is his second play to be produced, and is currently undertaking a nationwide tour after its premiere in London’s Bush Theatre.

Director Naomi Jones comments:

“David has worked as a carer, and his insight, while not representative, is fascinating and authentic. Through the character of Danny, he has gone beyond the expected representation of someone with Down’s syndrome – he’s created an individual. To work with a writer this talented early in his career is very exciting.”

Flight Path is the first co-production between Out of Joint and The Bush Theatre. Under the direction of Max Stafford-Clark, Out of Joint is best known for its production of new plays. These have included work by writers such as Caryl Churchill, David Hare and Mark Ravenhill. The Bush Theatre has been discovering, developing and producing exceptional new plays and playwrights for thirty five years.

Flight Path is on at the Sherman Theatre on Thursday 18 – Saturday 20 October 8pm. There will also be a post show discussion with the cast on Thursday 18 October. Tickets are £10 (Reductions £8) and are available from the Box Office on 029 2064 6900.

Flight Path includes strong language and is suitable for ages 14+.
