FROM SILESIA TO SOUTH WALES – INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THROUGH DANCE AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE THIS AUTUMN

FROM SILESIA TO SOUTH WALES – INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THROUGH DANCE AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE THIS AUTUMN A high profile delegate list, including Leighton Andrews AM and the Marshal of Silesia makes up part of an exciting cultural exchange package set to hit Cardiff and the Valleys for three days this autumn. From Wednesday 10 October to Saturday 13 October, Silesian Dance Theatre (Poland) comes to South Wales as part of an ongoing partnership exchange with Wales’ national dance company, Diversions.

Diversions welcomes the company for a tour to Theatr Brycheiniog (10 October) and Taliesin Arts Centre (11 October), but most significantly, the Silesia / South Wales Dance Conference (12/13 October) which will examine and discuss the impact of the arts on post-industrial communities; something that the two dance companies know much about. This is significant cultural partnership that has huge relevance for Wales and its own regeneration.

There are already strong connections with Silesia through the Welsh Assembly Government and conference organisers are delighted to announce that the Marshal of Silesia, will be in Cardiff on 12 October to welcome conference delegates along with Rhondda Cynon Taf AM, Leighton Andrews and Diversions Director, Roy Campbell-Moore.

Taking place between The Senedd, The Park and Dare theatre, Treorchy, the Urdd and Diversions Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, this two-day conference looks at the impact of dance activity in post industrial societies; its contribution to cultural development and regeneration through artists collaborations, professional performance, education, and participation which all work to enhance and develop cultural identity, communication and self esteem.

The continuing partnership work that Diversions and Silesian Dance Theatre have been carrying out in the last few months will make up an integral part of the conference. The conference is one of the key events of this exciting exchange project, developed in partnership with Diversions, the Dance Company of Wales, Silesian Dance Theatre, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cultural Services, Community Dance Wales, and Cardiff City Council. It brings together the thoughts and aspirations of many people including its funders, the Welsh Assembly Government and Wales Arts International.
