No More Nooky ‘Til The Fighting Stops

No More Nooky ‘Til The Fighting Stops A new play based on a classic Greek comedy, adapted for modern day audiences by acclaimed writer Blake Morrison comes to the Sherman Theatre on Friday 2 – Saturday 3 November.

Lisa’s Sex Strike is based on the well-known Aristophanes Greek comedy, Lysistrata, and has been adapted for the stage by Blake Morrison, whose autobiography And When Did You Last See Your Father? is currently enjoying Box Office success in a film adaptation starring Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent,

The production is Blake Morrison’s fifth collaboration with internationally acclaimed theatre company Northern Broadsides, and transfers Lysistrata’s universally topical issues of race, war, religion and sexual morality into modern day Northern England.

With racial tensions tearing a community apart, the women of the town decide to control matters by withholding sex from their men until the fighting stops. By the end, everyone is ‘dying for it’, but when the women picket the local factory and discover its role in the arms trade, their local dispute takes on global proportions.

With a large cast of fourteen actors, original music and song performed live on stage by the cast, and a script rich in poetry, wit and double entendre, Lisa’s Sex Strike will be a complete theatrical experience. The play does contain language of a sexually explicit nature and is therefore not suitable for under 16s.

Lisa’s Sex Strike is at the Sherman Theatre on Friday 2 – Saturday 3 November. Tickets are £14 (Reductions £12) and can be booked from the Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or online at www.shermantheatre.co.uk
