A RETURN TO WALES FOR TWO HOMEGROWN ARTISTS RESULTS IN A WORK IN PROGRESS AT DIVERSIONS’ DANCE HOUSE

A RETURN TO WALES FOR TWO HOMEGROWN ARTISTS RESULTS IN A WORK IN PROGRESS AT DIVERSIONS’ DANCE HOUSE On 22 October, 7.30pm a working performance of Taliesin, an enthralling collaborative work combining original compositions, dynamic sound-scapes and compelling visuals, will be shown at the Dance House, home of Diversions.

Alongside performing world class choreography on both a national and international level, Diversions focuses on education, participation and professional development. These all come together under Diversions Dance Explorer which provides workshops and guidance for both the public and professionals. Dance Explorer actively supports both emerging and established talent encouraging them to explore and stretch the boundaries of performance as well as their own artistic abilities. Diversions offer a nurturing and creative environment in which to do this at the Dance House, within the Wales Millennium Centre.

Taliesin is a prime example of Dance Explorer’s aims, bringing together two extremely talented practitioners, both in the world of dance and in the Arts as a whole. As an ex-Diversions dancer, Henrietta Hale is no stranger to Diversions’ philosophy and is constantly embarking on and producing new and innovative projects. These have included works for both theatre, and more recently, screen; Waiting for Bacon was a dance for screen project with film maker Peter Anderson and collaboration with artist Matti Braun resulted in The Alien, a visual arts theatre piece.

Collaborating with Hale is Sianed Jones a composer, performer and improviser who has recently returned to her home country of Wales. Having been inspired by her travels over the years as well as her Welsh heritage Sianed has set to music a series of poems from the 6th Century Taliesin collection to create a show sung in Welsh.

The solo will be accompanied by both a sound-scape and a continuous projected backdrop of moving images encompassing video, photography, drawings and texts in English and Welsh. Resulting in an intense, compelling work showcasing a week before a working performance of Taliesin is opened to the public, Hale and Jones will use the Man Gwyn, Diversions’ own performance space, to explore and develop the work, creating something that is unique to both the space and the moment in which it is created.

This is a unique opportunity to see such a performance in progress from practitioners that are as well-renowned as Hale and Jones, as well as experiencing another side of Diversions’ extensive Dance Explorer programme.
