![]() The Hired Man by Melvyn Bragg and Howard Goodall on Tuesday 6 November at 7.30pm. Set in rural Cumbria in the early years of the twentieth century, The Hired Man tells the timeless, moving story of a young married couple and their struggle to carve a living from the land, just as the traditional rhythms of English country life are being interrupted by the gathering storm of war in Europe – haunting, thrilling, stirring stuff. The show is brought to life by a talented cast of actors and musicians for a breathtaking evening. Daniel Buckroyd, New Perspectives’ Artistic Director said: ‘This is the first time The Hired Man has toured in the UK, and the first time that audiences in smaller venues have ever had a chance to see it, so Nottingham-based New Perspectives, the East Midlands’ flagship rural touring theatre company, are delighted to be heading off on tour with one of the biggest companies we’ve ever assembled to bring to life a haunting, thrilling and stirring chamber version of this highly acclaimed musical.’ Melvyn Bragg, Author of The Hired Man said: ‘It really is about something, something very real. It is about struggle, relationships, family…real lives. I was astonished that Howard Goodall could make a musical of a heroic working class struggle. But the things that go on in this story did happen in this country, and do continue to happen. And people relate to that. And the music is marvellous. I think it’s one of the best Goodall has written’ The Hired Man by New Perspectives Theatre Company is at Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan on Tuesday 6 November at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 and £10 concessions and can be booked in advance by phoning the Box Office on 01239 621200. |
