Passion, Laughter, Tragedy – Bohemian Style

The ever-popular and acclaimed company Mid Wales Opera returns to Brecon’s Theatr Brycheiniog on Saturday 10 November with one of the most popular operas of all, La Bohème by Puccini.
Following the immense success of their colourful production of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride last year, the company is turning to more familiar repertoire with the celebrated arias and ravishingly beautiful music of Puccini’s most romantic opera.
The story of La Bohème revolves around the lives and loves of four young Parisian artists who have chosen to live in poverty, sacrificing everything for the sake of their art.
Well-known for its original and imaginative productions, Mid Wales Opera will be taking a new look at this masterpiece with a youthful but experienced cast, all of whom will have performed solo roles with all the major national opera companies.
To direct this lively and talented team of soloists, the company will welcome back Martin Lloyd-Evans, one of the UK’s most brilliant young directors who works regularly with leading opera companies to considerable critical acclaim. His powerful and dramatic approach will be ideally suited to the wide range of emotions and excitement of La Bohème.
As the opera will be sung in English, MWO will again be working with the UK’s most distinguished translator, Amanda Holden, who wrote the specially commissioned translation for last year’s The Bartered Bride.
La Bohème by Mid Wales Opera will be at Theatr Brycheiniog on Saturday 10 November. Tickets cost £16.50 (£15.00 concs) and are available from the box office on 01764 611622.
