The Long Way Home at the Melville Theatre

The Long Way Home at the Melville Theatre Another play by award-winning Gwent playwright Charles Way - described as a classic in the making - can be seen on Friday 9 November at the Melville Theatre in The Drama Centre, Abergavenny.

The venue is on the whistle-stop national tour by Hijinx Theatre who are staging The Long Way Home - much acclaimed by critics as a story that touches the soul and is also utterly captivating.

Charles Way, who lives in Abergavenny, is one of Wales’ most successful playwrights. His haunting version of On The Black Hill based on Bruce Chatwin’s book was recently a sell-out performance at the Melville and he has written this year’s Christmas show for the Sherman Theatre.

The Long Way home is a traditional folk tale from the heart of old Europe, brought magically to life through towering physical storytelling and music.

It is a beautifully poignant story of friendship, danger and humour as two travellers face many hazards on their long journey.

An old woman, recently widowed, decides to walk home to the seaside village of her birth, a journey that takes her through dark woods, fertile plains and over snow-capped mountains. She encounters a young boy in the forest whose only means of communication is to bark like a dog, and the two become unlikely travelling companions.

An internationally-performed and acclaimed play, The Long Way Home has toured across Europe including Croatia, Germany and Switzerland.

Hijinx Theatre, based in Cardiff, has over 25 years’ experience of high quality theatre producing accessible, entertaining and challenging performances for small communities throughout Wales and England.

Tickets for the Melville Theatre (£6 and £4) are from the Borough Theatre box office, Abergavenny, tel 01873 850805.
