Kick off the New Year in Grand Style! With drama, comedy, opera, dance, one night shows and special events all on offer in the coming months, the Grand continues to be the live cultural heart of the City with a stage for everything. Swansea Grand Theatre's forthcoming spring events have something to entertain, educate and exhilarate everyone.

Excitingly, due to the Arts Wing's continuing growing success it also launches its first ever own separate diary this season.

Wednesday 19th December - Sunday 20th January 2008

The traditional fairytale, Dick Whittington continues for those seeking fortune and fancying a bit of adventure! Starring a host of star names including Ray Meagher, Anne Charleston, Hannah Waterman, Kevin Johns, Rik Gaynor and featuring Tommy the Cat

Opera and Dance:

A brilliant array of cultural diamonds is brought to the Grand with some of the best touring companies appearing in the coming months including:-

Swansea City Opera presenting Mozart's final opera masterpiece, The Magic Flute, an enchanting, spell-binding production. Sat 26th January

Moscow City Ballet return triumphantly - after last year's success - with two great productions, Romeo and Juliet and The Sleeping Beauty bringing captivating dramatic passion, en pointe! Mon 11th - Wed 13th February

Ellen Kent & Opera International presents the Ukrainian National Opera of Odessa with International Korean and Japanese Sopranos in two stunning performances of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Tues 26th Feb and Verdi's La Traviata, Wed 27th Feb. Two spectacular traditional productions with handpicked soloists, highly praised chorus and a full orchestra!

The UK's foremost Contemporary Dance Company, Rambert Dance Co. return to the Grand with their World View Tour 2008. The very best of British and world class dance talent. The drama, scale and spectacle of the Company continues to thrill and inspire audiences in Britain and abroad. 5th - 7th March

English National Ballet visit the theatre for the first time with their new children's work Angelina Ballerina's Star Performance 26th & 27th March. A magical introduction to ballet for children with a rare chance to see Angelina Ballerina dance her pirouettes and grand jetés in front of a live audience.

Welsh National Opera - 22nd - 26th April - make their first visit of the year to Swansea and bring with them three remarkable productions:- The musical and visual feast of Mozart's The Magic Flute, Tchaikovsky's beautiful, traditional Eugene Onegin and Carlo Rizzi conducts Verdi's brilliant Falstaff.

Drama:

We have a re-play! After last year's highly successful production of Toshack or Me! Fluellen Theatre Company go for extra time at the Grand with Peter

Read`s hilarious comedy set in Swansea in the early 1980s. 31st Jan

We follow that with the sequel to Toshack or Me!.. To Hull & Back. It is 2003 and the Swans are in danger of extinction both on and off the pitch. Almost bankrupt and one game away from relegation from the Football League, things couldn't be worse. This looks like a job for Vicar Joe! 1st & 2nd Feb



Rodney Bewes (from 'The Likely Lads') brings a fun-filled solo adaptation of Jerome K Jerome's, On The Stage - And Off: The brief career of a would-be Actor, circa 1880, for just one performance. 7th Feb.

DAD'S ARMY They were Britain's last line of defence! Don't Panic! They're back! A hilarious treat for the whole family with the welcome return of one of the most popular and revered British comedies of all time, Dad's Army. Lovingly recreated for the stage, this lavish new production - which includes a unique opportunity to see the lost episodes - has a star-studded cast, including Leslie Grantham (Dirty Den, EastEnders) 18th - 23rd Feb

Get 'converted' to Roofless by Geraint Thomas. Relive the amazing climax to Wales' magnificent 2005 rugby Grand Slam in this new comedy for the first time featured on the theatre's main stage. 29th March

Fluellen Theatre Co. present Under Milk Wood, Dylan Thomas' magnificent and much-loved work about a day in a fictional Welsh village. Probably the greatest play to come out of Wales. This major new production stars Kevin Johns, directed by Peter Richards, designed by Ed Thomas (Doctor Who and Torchwood), and with music specially composed by Delyth Jenkins. 8th - 11th April


Musicals:

The Masters of the House sing the musicals. Don't miss this musical feast featuring former stars from Les Miserables performing in concert. 24th Jan

Join the young people of The Sir Harry Secombe Trust, to enjoy an evening of musical theatre. With excerpts from Disney's Aladdin, songs from Aida, Evita and Copacabana, this will be a night not to missed! 25th Jan

Oh! What a Night, an unashamedly escapist, high-energy, feel good show, combining comedy, romance and stunningly choreographed versions of everybody's favourite 70s hits. Kid Creole leads a fantastic young cast, performing the biggest disco hits including 'Celebration', 'Shaft', 'Ain't No Stopping Us Now', 'We are Family', 'Young Hearts Run Free', 'Oh! What A Night' and the show stopping 'YMCA'. So put on your platforms, zip up your cat-suit and boogie on down for a great night out. 8th & 9th Feb

Swansea Amateurs return with the delightful musical Hello Dolly! Enjoy the popular songs 'Put Your Sunday Clothes On', 'Before the Parade Passes By' and of course the title number 'Hello Dolly!' 11th- 15th March

Over The Rainbow,The life story of Eva Cassidy as a compelling, award-winning Musical, starring Faye Tozer (from STEPS) as Eva Cassidy 17th - 19th March

20th March, Buddy Holly and The Cricketers Official 50th Anniversary Tour! 50 years on, to the month, from Buddy Holly and The Crickets' whirlwind whistle-stop tour of Britain, this fast, furious and funny rock 'n' rollercoaster of a show is guaranteed to have everyone singing along to the music and dancing in the aisles to such timeless hits as That'll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, It Doesn't Matter Anymore, Raining In My Heart, Oh Boy!

The Best is Yet to Come, 15th Feb - All proceeds to The Alzheimer's Society The South Wales Evening Post invites you to see and hear young singers, dancers, comedians, musicians and pop groups, aged 4-18 years

On the Trail of the Countback Kid. When the Hicksburg Bank vaults had been cleared, everybody knew it was the Tumbleweed Gang that'd done it. But could they find them? No siree!
