A New Dawn for Sherman Cymru

A New Dawn for Sherman Cymru Sherman Cymru officially launched this week with a special opening party and brand new look to mark a new year and new company, attended by Minister for Heritage, Rhodri Glyn Thomas and Chair of the Arts Council of Wales, Professor Dai Smith.
The launch event unveiled Sherman’s new logo, website and new look foyer and was attended by arts professionals and dignitries from across the UK, as well as a handpicked selection of Sherman’s most loyal audiences. Minister for Heritage, Rhodri Glyn Thomas, commented:
"Developing new playwrights, and providing opportunities for the next generation of writers to develop their voice is vital for the continuing vitality of theatre. Sherman Cymru has hit the ground running, and their first production, Maes Terfyn, showed that Wales has plenty of fresh talent. The company will also play an important role in the development of theatre in Wales in general, offering new and diverse product and helping to attract new audiences".

The new company, formed from the merger of new writing company Sgript Cymru and the Sherman Theatre Company, aims to produce and present ambitious, compelling theatre from the best artists from Wales and beyond and actively encourage the development of emerging artists of the next generation. Director Chris Ricketts comments:

“It’s an exciting time for Sherman Cymru and this launch marks a powerful opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the national and international development of theatre in Wales, and to the vigour of theatre in its capital city.”

Sherman Cymru now commence their first official season with a Spring season including the Royal Shakespeare Company, the highly acclaimed DV8 Physical Theatre and in-house production The Almond and the Seahorse by Wales based writer Kaite O’Reilly which will also tour throughout Wales. Sherman Cymru will also produce and play host to SpringBoard – a new writing festival which will showcase a range of short pieces for theatre.
