Stimulate your senses at The Riverfront this spring!

Stimulate your senses at The Riverfront this spring! Why not blow away any festive cobwebs with one or more of the enlivening performances The Riverfront has to offer this spring.

There’s theatre a-plenty this season, starting with some local talent when UWN’s Vista Theatre present a gut-wrenching version of Café Grand Guignol and followed by a Welsh language panto for schools with Macsen by Cwmni Mega. Sole Abode by Madrugada fuses text, physical performance and striking set – and a man who decides to live in a fridge! Funeral Games will be presented by Unpacked who tell darkly comedic stories, using high-octane physicality, new writing and a distinctive puppetry aesthetic, so for you risk-takers out there, try something new and come along to either of these pieces of striking new theatre.

Finally, bard-busters themselves, the Reduced Shakespeare Company will return with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). There will be young people’s theatre with the Shakespeare Youth Festival and Riverfront Youth Theatre show back.

Families can choose from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Witch’s Bogey, Does a Monster Live Next Door and Dragon Fish. The Witch’s Bogey is during half-term, while the other three shows are on the first Saturdays of February, March and April. There’s a special offer for those of you who book for all four performances too!

Classical music lovers will be delighted to know there will be a return visit from Sinfonia Cymru, a performance from violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky and pianist Olga Sitkovetsky and the Doric String Quartet. Other music includes the incredible Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Pluck, who combine great humour and excellent musicianship will return with The Specialists, and former Stranglers front-man Hugh Cornwell will perform an intimate gig in the studio theatre.

Newport Male Choir will perform at the Mayor’s St David’s Day Gala and The Buddy Holly and The Cricketers Show, Joe Brown, The Glenn Miller Orchestra and The Barron Knights all drop in again. There will be some Jazz with Harlem Hot Feet hosted by Tony Jacobs and don’t miss this season’s opera classic The Magic Flute by Swansea City Opera. BBC Radio 4’s Count Arthur Strong brings some comedic capers with The Musical?

There will be extraordinary dance with Candoco, the leading contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers and cinema at its best with Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford, And When Did You Last See Your Father to name but a few of the great films this season.

Don’t forget the array of workshops and art exhibitions The Riverfront offers and the regular monthly events, Comedy Shed the monthly comedy club night, First Wednesday lunchtime recitals and Second Wednesday public talks.

There are loads of great special offers this spring season so be sure to contact Box Office on 01633 656757 for more details and to book tickets.
