(And A Bang And A Strum And A Kick ...) INNOVATIVE PERCUSSION MASTERS SCRAPARTSMUSIC COMES TO Swansea Grand Theatre. FOR ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY on Tuesday 5th February. Five high-kicking master percussionists take to the stage with ingenious instruments forged from industrial scrap that look like sleek pieces of modern sculpture. ScrapArtsMusic (SAM) sets the stage ablaze with infectious original music and athletic impeccably-timed choreography. Melding music, theatre, art and dance, this dazzling performance troupe creates a thoroughly entertaining, metal-bending, genre-mixing entertainment experience. Bold, energetic and exhilarating. SAM is the brainchild of Gregory Kozak, a Vancouver-based percussionist schooled in jazz and world music traditions, who draws inspiration from the avant-garde composers of the 20th century. Frustrated by the limitations of conventional instruments, Kozak learned the art of welding in order to build instruments that could give voice to his unique musical vision. Since its first performance in 1998, SAM has thrilled audiences and critics the world over: The Age, Australia's leading newspaper, raved "This quintet have the total package ...command of their instruments, a unanimity of ensemble that even from a distance impresses as extraordinary and athletic choreography.." ScrapArtsMusic will be at Swansea Grand Theatre on Tuesday 5th Feb at 7.30pm. Tickets are available by calling Box Office on 01792 475715 or reserve online at www.swanseagrand.co.uk Rodney Bewes (The Likely Lads) 'ON THE STAGE: AND OFF' based on the work of Jerome K Jerome Thursday 7th February 7.30pm The hugely funny one-man-show, 'ON THE STAGE: AND OFF', comes to the Grand Theatre offering a delightful adaptation of Jerome K Jerome's 'A Brief Career of A Would be Actor' performed by 'Likely Lad', Rodney Bewes on Thursday 7th February. Reminding us what it once meant to 'tread the boards', this show was enthusiastically premiered at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where Rodney Bewes enacted the true story of Jerome's - one if the world's prolific writers of the late 19th century - early life as a 'jobbing actor'. Providing an hilarious journey through weekly repertory theatre, touring, pantomime, stock and fit up, until our hero swears never to darken a stage door again! The young and idealistic Jerome decided to try his hand at acting, under the stage name Harold Crichton, battling with forbidding landladies and unsympathetic managers, touring with second- and third-rate companies and endeavouring to make himself a 'star'. It also tells us his observations on London theatre, his thoughts on the mysterious world of 'behind the scenes', and his views of the actors and management of that era. Slowly we come to see the glamorous world of showbiz for what it is! A rare theatrical indulgence is in store for everyone and particularly those unfamiliar with Jerome's superb writing during this theatrical tour de force. Tickets for On The Stage: And Off are available from the theatre Box Office, 01792 475715, or by calling in person. (9.30am - 8.00pm Mon to Sat) Tickets are £8.00 and £12.00 OH! WHAT A NIGHT 'Oh!
