The contemporary performance art scene in Wales is one of the most active anywhere in the UK. Over the past few years a number of artist-run spaces and networks have developed which support this scene: trace: installaction artspace and tactileBOSCH (Cardiff), Coed Hills Rural Artspace (Cowbridge), ointment collective (Pembrokeshire), Real Institute (Llanrwst), Blaengar (Aberystwyth) and the Wales-wide Second Wednesday Group contribute to the current diversity and vibrancy of Welsh performance. If one aspect unites them, it is a shared concern with the place(s) of performance, its physical, geographic and social location.

Three of Wales’s most prolific contemporary performance artists, Phil Babot, Andre Stitt and Simon Whitehead, will be in conversation about the contemporary performance art scene, the role of artist-run spaces and networks and the significance of place in performance.

As a creator of >live occurrences<, Phil Babot is affiliated with a number of artist-run spaces in Wales, including trace:, tactileBOSCH and Coed Hills. Belfast-born Andre Stitt is considered one of Europe’s formost performance artists. A professor at Cardiff School of Art, he founded trace: installaction artspace in 2000. Movement artist Simon Whitehead has developed a body of performance work based on pedestrian practices from his base in rural Wales. He is a founding member of ointment.

Mae’r sin gelfyddyd perfformio gyfoes yng Nghymru yn un o’r rhai mwyaf byrlymus a bywiog yn y DU. Dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf yn arbennig, mae yna nifer o rwydweithiau a gofodau a rynnir gan artistiaid wedi’i sefydlu er mwyn hybu a chefnogi’r sin: trace: installaction artspace a tactileBOSCH (Caerdydd), Coed Hills Rural Artspace (Y Bont-faen), ointment collective (Sir Benfro), Rel Institiwt (Llanrwst), Blaengar (Aberystwyth) a’r grwp Gymru-led Second Wednesday. Mae'r rhain i gyd yn cyfrannu tuag at yr amrywiaeth o waith perfformio sydd i’w weld yng Nghymru heddiw. Os oes yna un rhinwedd sy’n cael ei amlygu’n gyson yn y gwaith a gynhyrchir o ganlyniad i’r sefydliadau uchod, y gydnabyddiaeth a’r cwestiynu cyson o leoliad(au) perfformio, ac o’u lleoliad daearyddol a chymdeithasol yw hynny.

Fe fydd tri o artistiaid celfyddyd perfformio fwyaf toreithiog y Gymru gyfoes, Phil Babot, Andre Stitt a Simon Whitehead, yn sgwrsio ynglyn a’r sin gelfyddyd perfformio yng Nghymru heddiw a’i berthynas a’r gofodau a redir gan artistiaid, yn ogystal a phwysigrwydd lleoliad mewn perfformio.

Fel un sy’n creu >digwyddiadau byw<, fe gysylltir Phil Babot a nifer o’r gofodau hyn a rynnir gan artistiaid yng Nghymru, gan gynnwys trace; tactileBOSCH a Coed Hills. Fe gysidrir Andre Stitt, a aned ym Melffast, fel un o artistiaid celfyddyd perfformio blaenaf Ewrop. Yn Athro yn Ysgol Gelf Caerdydd, sefydlodd trace: installaction artspace yn 2000. O’i ganolfan yn y Canolbarth, mae Simon Whitehead wedi datblygu corff o waith perfformio yn seiliedig a’r arferion cerddwyr. Fe yw un o aelodau cychwynnol ointment.
