NOW FREE FOR ALL

As a continuation of their audience development initiative, which has successfully brought live theatre experiences to a wider audience via the Lyric’s Diversions Dance evening and Hull Truck’s performance of Life’s A Beach at Theatr Elli, both free introductions to the theatre, plus last year’s series of free taster workshops during the Open Week, Carmarthenshire Theatres have now launched the Free For All scheme.
Free For All is aimed at removing obstacles and encouraging those who have not yet enjoyed the live theatre experience, together with welcoming back audiences who may have stopped attending for one reason or another. It’s also a unique way of rewarding loyal and regular customers. Free For All is open to everybody, breaking down barriers of age and class and the notion that theatre is just for the privileged. “It’s a way of bringing people back to plays and also a way of giving something back to those who enjoy attending the theatre on a regular basis,” says County Theatres Manager Carwyn Matera-Rogers.
To kick start this scheme, Carmarthenshire Theatres have teamed up with one of the UK’s most successful and renown professional touring companies, Reform, whose production of Bouncers received critical acclaim. They’ll be bringing the fast-paced, yet gritty slice of realism, Albert Nobbs to Theatr Elli, March 8.
Written by the award-winning playwright Gordon Steel, responsible for last season’s Like A Virgin, Albert Nobbs is a comedy following an ordinary chap as he looks forward to the sun-kissed days of relaxation and pottering about in the garden that retirement brings. Instead, all hell breaks loose as bored, bothered and stressed to the max – with wife Connie’s nagging only adding to his frustrations, Albert Nobbs realises retirement isn’t exactly the vision of utopia he’d imagined. Injected with humour, this brilliantly performed, high-octane observation of the mishaps and misfortunes of real life will appeal to all ages and audiences.
Keith Hukin – Artistic Director of Reform Theatre Company commentated “We love coming to Carmarthenshire and are happy to play our part in bringing audiences back to see live plays”.
Cllr Clive Scourfield – Leisure Cabinet member said, “Carmarthenshire County Council has ambitious plans for all its theatres and I am pleased to see that we are providing opportunities for all to enjoy the exciting theatre experience”.
A free shuttle bus service will be running from Carmarthenshire Theatres’ other venues, Carmarthen’s Lyric and Ammanford Miners’ Theatre, with pick-ups en-route to Theatr Elli. With high demand expected, booking in advance is essential.
