"Y Pair" at the Sherman
|
The National Welsh language theatre company Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru return to Sherman this March with a Welsh adaptation of one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century, The Crucible.
Y Pair follows the events of the infamous 1953 Salem Witch Trials where 150 women were accused of witchcraft. The production will be one of the largest Welsh productions for the stage with a cast of 17, which will include well known stage and television actors Llion Williams, Dyfan Roberts, Christine Pritchard and Richard Elfyn. Catrin Morgan will play the role of Abigail Williams, who leads the accusations of the so-called witches.
Y Pair has been adapted by renowned dramatist and author Gareth Miles, and will be directed by Judith Roberts who comments:
“This is an emotional and startling play combining love, conscience and religious salvation. It’s a gripping story which will undoubtedly shock, stimulate and captivate audiences.”
Y Pair is the first of three productions to come to Sherman from Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru in the coming months. In May, the company return with a contemporary production of Saunders Lewis’s most famous historical play Siwan, as well as a controversial new play by Aled Jones-Williams, Iesu!, which will premiere at Sherman as part of the National Eisteddfod in August.
Y Pair comes to Sherman on 13-14 March 7.30pm. Tickets are £14 (Reductions £12, Under 19s £8) and can be booked from Sherman Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or online at www.shermancymru.co.uk
