The Magic Flute Hits Llanelli

The Magic Flute Hits Llanelli Fresh from their Cars To Mars project, a collaboration with Swansea’s Dragon Arts and Learning which saw the creation of the first street opera, and following last year’s triumphant The Daughter Of The Regiment, highly acclaimed Swansea City Opera return to Camarthenshire Theatres with Mozart’s mesmerizing final masterpiece, The Magic Flute, at Theatr Elli, 18 March.

Revisiting the magic of Mozart, Swansea City Opera’s fifth full-scale production is an ambitions affair, which will combine their stunning sets and striking costumes with modern technology for the first time, to create the magical elements of this opera. And on the road since November hitting venues across England and Wales, SCO have already received a mass of rave reviews for this stunning touring production.

From the dazzling arias of the Queen Of The Night to the folksong-like melodies of the bird catcher Papageno, the full range of Mozart's miraculous talent is on display in this most beloved opera, superbly performed by SCO's ensemble of fine singers and the renowned orchestra. Rich with symbolism and ritual, The Magic Flute is a playful but profound look at man’s search for love and his struggle to attain wisdom and virtue that’s sure to delight audiences of all ages. Light triumphs over darkness as we follow Mozart’s young lovers on their perilous journey through a mysterious land of sorcerers, protected only by the Queen Of The Night’s lowly bird catcher and a magic flute. Balancing light-hearted and enchanting ‘fairytale’ elements with the darker, more mysterious Masonic and occult-type allegories that run throughout, Mozart’s final masterpiece will captivate the soul and enrich the mind.

Supported by The Arts Council Of Wales, this performance is part of the ‘Opera For Everyone’ project, which features a free talk an hour prior to the performance, at 6.30pm. More details available from the box office. Tickets, priced £13.50 - £16, are available from the box office: 0845 226 3508/09/10
