SIMON CALLOW and ALFIE ALLEN to star with LINDA THORSON in West End hit EQUUS at the New Theatre, Cardiff |
![]() Psychiatrist Martin Dysart (Simon Callow) is brought the most challenging case of his career by magistrate Hesther Saloman (Linda Thorson). Alan Strang (Alfie Allen) seems like a normal seventeen year old. His life is routine and his family loving. However, Alan’s passion for horses and his first experience with a girl, stable-hand Jill (Laura O’Toole) has led him to behave in the most devastating way. Only Dysart seems able to grasp the answer to this psychological puzzle. Simon Callow, arguably one of our greatest living actors, has a host of credits to his name includes the films A Room With a View, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare in Love. On stage he was most recently seen in the West End and on Broadway in his one man show on Charles Dickens, and even more recently on television when he appeared again as Charles Dickens in the sensational television series Doctor Who (which incidentally was filmed at the New Theatre!). Alfie Allen, like sister Lily, is the latest rising star of the Allen family, recently been seen in hit films The Other Boleyn Girl and Atonement. Television credits include Stephen Poliakoff’s drama Joe’s Palace and the BBC series Casualty 1907. Linda Thorson is not only an award winning stage actress with extensive theatre credits that include Noises Off and City of Angels on Broadway, but she has reached iconic status for the character she created; Tara King in the cult TV series The Avengers for which she was awarded an honorary BAFTA Award in 2000. Most recently Linda has played, for the past two years, Rosemary Sinclair in Emmerdale. Equus was first produced by the National Theatre in 1973. The revival in 2007 starring Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe was the first major production in over thirty years. Peter Shaffer’s other credits include the multi-award winning Amadeus and The Royal Hunt of Sun, also recently revived by the National Theatre. The national tour of Equus is, once again, directed by Thea Sharrack and designed by John Napier. One of the country’s most in demand directors, Thea’s recent credits include the Donmar Warehouse production of A Voyage Round My Father and Heroes which won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. Equus is produced by David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, the Olivier and Tony award winning producers of Art, The Play What I Wrote and Heroes, and Theatre Royal Bath Productions. Equus is at the New Theatre, Cardiff for just one week from 7 – 12 April, daily evening performances at 7.30pm and Thursday & Saturday matinees at 2.30pm.
